Instruments

Monette Trumpets I’ve played Monette mouthpieces for 25 years, and Monette trumpets for almost 20 years. Their Facebook Page is also a great source of information about their work and products.

Larson Brasswerks Another fantastic trumpet maker—Ken is the trumpet teacher at Interlochen and, in addition to making brand new instruments, he also offers lead pipes, tuning slides, and full conversions.

Music

The Arban Book Affectionately known as “the Bible,” Jean-Baptiste Arban’s Arban's Complete Conservatory Method is the most comprehensive method book available.

Concone Lyrical Studies These transcribed etudes are fantastic for phrasing, intonation, and even transposition.

Charlier - 36 Etudes These etudes are both technically challenging and musically rewarding. For advanced students only.

IMSLP Music is expensive! IMSLP is a great resource for finding legal, no-cost PDFs of music whose copyrights have expired (including some of the trumpet books above).

Apps and Software

Audacity Some of the best things in life are free, and Audacity is one of those things! It’s a full-featured, open-source recording app that works for both Windows and MacOS.

Tonal Energy This is my go-to metronome, tuner, and drone app. It’s available for both iOS and Android.

iSruthi Making practice fun is important, and this app makes practicing fun! It recreates an Indian sruti box by creating a drone for both improvisation and intonation excercies. It’s currently only available on iOS and M1 Macs, but similar apps may be available for other platforms.

Other Equipment

Zoom iQ7 Microphone for iPhone This microphone turns an iPhone into a mini recording studio—I use this mic almost every day!
